The Most Lethal Weapon in BJJ
Oct 04, 2021What Is The Most Lethal Weapon In Every BJJ Practitioners Arsenal?
We might call it the “Gentle Art” but don’t let it fool you. Today’s version of Brazilian jiu-jitsu is very different from the BJJ back in the day.
If you check the word BJJ on Wikipedia, you will get the notion that Brazilian jiu-jitsu was invented to allow a smaller person to be able to defend himself against a bigger and stronger opponent using leverage and weight distribution. This is correct, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. In fact, there is a whole system within BJJ that few people know about, a system that is so dangerous and effective that if used correctly will cause serious, maybe even life-threatening damage to any opponent whether standing or on the ground. As a matter of fact, this part of BJJ is so brutal that it was even banned from MMA.
Today, twenty years later, if you ask anyone what is the primary weapon in every in the Jiu-Jitsu practitioners arsenal, most people will say the RNC (Rear Naked Choke) the Armlock, or the Triangle. However, none of this is correct. So if it isn’t a submission and since BJJ doesn’t have strikes or kicks, then what is the primary weapon in every in the Jiu-Jitsu practitioner's arsenal?
It’s right there, hidden in plain sight, a lost weapon with extremely high efficiency.
However, just because has been forgotten doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
Of course, we are talking about street applicable Jiu-Jitsu and the head-butt. Basically, after achieving the clinch, or being on top in the closed guard, the head becomes the most dangerous weapon at your disposal. We do not recommend using it as you can cause unnecessary damage, but it is good to know how to apply it, at least if you agree with the Chinese proverb that it's “better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war.”
In the video: Relson Gracie Black belt Jean Vandesteen shows some of the most efficient ways on how to apply Jiu-Jitsu in the most effective way using your head in a street fight.
